THE HOPPER REVIEWS CAMPAIGN
Save Marston's Brewery
Help protect Burton's brewing heritage, local jobs and the future of historic British beers.
A proposal isn't the end of the story. Here's what's been announced and how you can make your voice heard.
What's been proposed?
On 8th October 2026, Carlsberg Britvic proposed closing Marston's Brewery and its primary logistics operation in Burton upon Trent in summer 2027, subject to consultation. Around 310 colleagues are directly affected. The company says declining cask ale demand is behind its plans and that the operation is expected to continue during the transition. This is a proposal, not a completed closure.
Note: The consultation is being undertaken by Carlsberg Britvic. Marston's PLC, the separate pub business, isn't involved.
What I'm asking for
Please reconsider closure, explore credible alternatives including independent ownership, protect skilled jobs and give the brewery and its beers a fair chance of a sustainable future. Keeping a brand name alive isn't the same as keeping brewing in Burton.

Subject: Please reconsider the proposed closure of Marston's Brewery
Dear Carlsberg Britvic team,
I'm writing to ask you to reconsider the proposed closure of Marston's Brewery in Burton upon Trent.
I'm concerned about the impact on the people who work there, the town's brewing identity and the future of the beers associated with the brewery.
Please explore credible alternatives to closure, including opportunities for independent ownership or a sale that could preserve brewing at the site. I'd also welcome clarity on how affected staff will be supported and how potential alternatives will be assessed during consultation.
[Add a few lines about why the brewery, its beers or British brewing heritage matter to you.]
Please pass my concerns to the team responsible for the consultation and let me know how public feedback will be considered.
Kind regards,
[Your name]
[Your town]
2. Contact your MP
Write to your own constituency MP. Use Parliament's official finder to identify them and check their current contact details. Explain your concerns about jobs, brewing skills and heritage, and ask them to raise the proposal with Carlsberg Britvic and relevant ministers. Include your name and postal address in your private message so their office can establish that you're a constituent. Don't post your address publicly.
For Burton and Uttoxeter constituents: Jacob Collier's parliamentary contact email is jacob.collier.mp@parliament.uk. Verify the constituency and contact details on his official Parliament page before writing.
3. The CAMRA interview
Can the brewery be saved?
I recently spoke with Ash Corbett-Collins, CAMRA's National Chairman, about the proposed closure of Marston's Brewery, the future of its historic beers and what can be done to protect brewing in Burton. Read more about the discussion while the full interview is being prepared for publication.
